Dont’ make them a Jerk!

I always believed in empowerment.

But first I believed in earning the right to make the call.

This is not something that a company should easily bestow. Now, more and more people want the power to decide. well, anybody can decide for their own,( as long as they understand the consequences) but we should not easily give them the power to decide over other people.

According to studies, people who are given decision making powers with no experience, or who have not earned the experience to make such decisions end up being a jerk.

So it has nothing to do with entitlements. Making a call creates results or problems. Before it becomes serious, make sure that the people making the call first knows what he is doing, and the corresponding responsibilities associated with it.

What do people say about the ad ? It does not even mention Microsoft or Vista.

Why is Microsoft spending $10 million on it?

Well, its cool, and I like it. More and more, ads are not supposed to fork out information. It just makes you feel good and reminds you that here is a sincere company that is trying to do what it can to make technology easier and more enjoyable to use.

My eNGy Business cartoons have been taking up most of my time over this blog. For readers of this blog, I am endeavoring to bridge this gap. Ever since I released the toons, I have published 3 books on the cartoon series, and the first 2 are available as free ebook downloads. The first has exceeded 3,000 downloads, while the second, as of this writing, is nearing 1,200 downloads.

I have added another twists — apparently, my experiences spawns business blog articles, or adding a twist, spawns a humor cartoon. I am now trying to reconcile both - combining the humor, as well as the management lessons I learned.

For the first 8 articles that combines a business blog together with a cartoon humor about it, please check it it out here!

someone sends me a bit of astounding job-search advice from a blog or a newsletter. This is not advisable — unless in an emergency. Credit card financing is risky, and expensive.

In business, it is always possible to work so that you can get a little cash discount in lieu of using your credit card, and in today’s competitive world, a few percentage counts a lot!

44% of businesses rely on credit cards for financing | IT Facts | ZDNet.com

Share of businesses using credit cards has jumped from 16% in 1993 to 44% today, according to National Small Business Association. The proportion using bank loans dropped from 45% to 28%. A Federal Reserve survey showed that share of firms using business credit cards jumped from 34% in 1998 to 48% in 2003.

A Bad Example of doing the Wrong Thing

There are anecdotes and stories that teach you the right stuff… and there are those that don’t.

I normally receive a lot of mass mails. Many are entertaining, and many are educational. Many have a point, but may have the tendency to point you to the wrong direction. This is one.

The police is right — you have to prioritize…. And if the robber is not inside the house, and is just tooling around the shed which will surely not be a risk to life or even valuable items, then it has to be relegated, and he could be right that there are no people to dispatch…

But when there is homicide and murder, then you should prioritize it with alarms blaring.

You should give it to people that they need to prioritize, and doing this to get attention is not only WRONG - it might deprive some people that need police attention more…

LET US prioritize, and let us help other people prioritize. It insures the most important work gets done.

HOW TO CALL THE POLICE .

George
Phillips of Meridian , Mississippi , was going up to bed, when his
wife told him that he’d left the light on in the garden shed, which she
could see from the bedroom window. George opened the back door to go
turn off the light, but saw that there were people in the shed stealing
things.

He phoned the police, who asked ‘Is someone in your house?

He said ‘No.’

Then they said ‘All patrols were busy. You should lock your doors and an officer will be along when one is available.’

George said, ‘Okay.’ He hung up the phone and counted to 30. Then he phoned the police again.

‘Hello, I just called you a few seconds ago because there were people
stealing things from my shed. Well, you don’t have to worry about them
now because I just shot them.’ and he hung up.

Within five minutes, six Police Cars, a SWAT Team, a Helicopter,
two Fire Trucks, a Paramedic, and an Ambulance showed up at
the Phillips’ residence, and caught the burglars red-handed. One of the
Policemen said to George, ‘I thought you said that you’d shot them!’

George said, ‘I thought you said there was nobody available!’

This is a great tip:

From a person who listens to presentations and also makes presentations, it is beneficial actually for both sides to know what to expect, and go to the ‘meat’.

Sellers might think they benefit by making obfuscating things, but it has to be that both sides win if both sides hit their objectives, not just the reseller.

Solid States Drives

This is great!

But what will happen to spinning hard disk drives?

The solid state is smaller, uses less power and cooling, and is also said to be 250% faster.

But what’s even more is the realization that it is also more durable, and less likely to crash….

I have always qualms because I like to move the notebook computers around, or use it in the car, in the plane, where there may be vibrations…. At least there won’t be an issue that the hard disk will crash when you are accessing your data, and you hit a road bump…

IBM tests 4-terabyte solid-state drive tech | Nanotech: The Circuits Blog - CNET News

IBM said Thursday it is testing a 4-terabyte, high-speed solid-state drive array targeted at the enterprise, as the technology giant gives its imprimatur to flash-memory-based storage.

IT is great that along with economic prosperity is more happiness.

That’s what its all about, is it?

Survey Says: People Are Happier

What the survey found this year is that freedom of choice and social acceptance are the most powerful forces behind national moods. “Money’s pretty powerful, but it’s not the whole story,” says Inglehart, though he maintains that a strong correlation still exists between high standards of living and happiness measures.
